Femi Adebayo is a Nigerian actor, filmmaker, producer, and trained lawyer best known for his work in Yoruba-language films. His career includes comedy, drama, and epic productions, with notable titles such as Jelili, King of Thieves, Jagun Jagun, and Seven Doors. He is also the son of veteran Nigerian actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello.
EARLY LIFE AND FAMILY BACKGROUND.
Femi Adebayo hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, and grew up in Ebute Metta, Lagos. Raised in a family closely connected to entertainment, he had early exposure to acting through his father’s work.
In interviews, Adebayo has credited his father with teaching him how to interpret roles and manage fame. He explained that Oga Bello supported his acting ambitions while insisting that he receive a good education. These lessons helped shape his approach to both his career and public life.
His birthday is 31 December. Published profiles give conflicting birth years, so an exact age should be treated cautiously when preparing a biography for publication.
EDUCATION AND LEGAL CAREER.
Adebayo studied law at the University of Ilorin and later obtained a Master of Laws degree from the University of Ibadan. His academic background reflects a longstanding ambition to become a lawyer, even while he was developing an interest in acting.
In an interview with Independent, he recalled being attracted to courtroom practice and the experience of representing clients. He said he practised law for approximately two years after being called to the Nigerian Bar.
However, acting gradually became his main professional focus because he found greater personal fulfilment in it. He continued his legal education despite that change in direction.
ACTING BREAKTHROUGH IN ‘Owo Blow’
A major turning point in Adebayo’s career came with Tade Ogidan’s Owo Blow in 1996. Adebayo has described the production as his breakthrough, giving him an important opportunity to demonstrate his acting ability.
Although he already had exposure to filmmaking through his family, the role helped him gain recognition beyond being Oga Bello’s son. He subsequently built a career across numerous Yoruba-language productions.
THE POPULARITY OF JELILI.
One of Adebayo’s most recognisable screen identities is Jelili, a comic character closely associated with his career.
In a Tribune interview, he explained that the character helped audiences recognise him independently. Previously, people often introduced him primarily through his connection to his father; the popularity of Jelili gave him a stronger identity of his own.
His film credits and productions include Jelili, Survival of Jelili, Ile Alayo and Etiko Onigedu, reflecting his involvement in both acting and production.
GROWTH AS A PRODUCER.
Adebayo later expanded into larger productions through Euphoria360 Media, the company associated with projects including King of Thieves and Jagun Jagun. His work increasingly combined Yoruba-language storytelling with elaborate costumes, action, and culturally rooted settings.
Released on Netflix on 10 August 2023, Jagun Jagun was directed by Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani. It follows the conflict between a powerful warlord, Ogundiji, and a young fighter, Gbotija.
The film became an important milestone in Adebayo’s producing and acting career, earning recognition at major African film awards.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION.
Adebayo’s achievements include Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards for Jagun Jagun. The production also won awards for makeup and visual effects at the ceremony.
In 2025, he won Best Lead Actor at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for his performance in Seven Doors. His co-star Chioma Chukwuka also won Best Lead Actress for the series.
PUBLIC SERVICE TRAINING.
Beyond filmmaking, Adebayo served as a special adviser on culture and tourism to former Kwara State governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. The Guardian reported that he received the appointment in 2016.
He also established the J15 School of Performing Arts, creating an avenue for training aspiring entertainment professionals. This extended his involvement in the industry beyond his own screen performances.
PERSONAL LIFE.
Adebayo married Omotayo Maimunat Sanusi on 9 October 2016. Contemporary reporting by BellaNaija stated that he was previously married to Khadijat Adebayo, with whom he had three children.
RECENT CAREER DEVELOPMENTS.
In October 2026, Adebayo announced that Jagun Jagun 2 was scheduled to premiere exclusively on Netflix on 4 December 2026. He also opened Euphoria360 Hub in Oregun, Lagos, a facility supporting production and post-production work.
From his breakthrough in Owo Blow to his award-winning performances and larger productions, Adebayo’s career shows a steady progression from actor to filmmaker and industry entrepreneur. His work continues to place Yoruba language, characters, and cultural storytelling at the centre of his screen projects.
