Funke Akindele is taking the promotion of her next film beyond the traditional cinema campaign. The Nollywood actress and filmmaker has announced a partnership with Facebook for The Four: No One Fights Alone, a new feature film scheduled to premiere in cinemas on December 11, 2026. The collaboration will support the film’s world premiere in London and its homecoming premiere in Lagos, bringing creators, celebrities and audiences into the conversation around the movie.
The partnership is designed to highlight how social media can help filmmakers connect with viewers and build communities around their work. It will also create opportunities to share content from the premieres, including behind-the-scenes moments, premiere preparations and celebrity appearances. For fans who cannot attend the events in person, online updates can offer a closer look at the film’s journey before its cinema release.
Akindele announced the collaboration on Thursday, October 29, expressing excitement about taking The Four to a wider audience. She also acknowledged the support she has received from fans throughout her career. The announcement reflects the increasingly important role that digital platforms play in how Nigerian entertainers communicate with followers and promote new projects.
Meta’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, Oluwasola Obagbemi, said the partnership would celebrate creators and the communities that help cultural moments travel. He highlighted the potential for Facebook creators to reach audiences around the world, build relationships with fans and earn money from original content. The collaboration will also spotlight Nigerian creators at home and in the diaspora, showing how online communities can help Nigerian stories reach beyond national borders.
The film itself, titled The Four: No One Fights Alone, is described as an emotionally driven drama centred on friendship, motherhood, resilience and the strength of ordinary women. Its story follows Esosa and three loyal friends as they fight to secure the future of a young man they love. Their journey tests their courage, faith and loyalty, with the story moving between the Odu community and the city.
Akindele leads a cast that includes Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu, Uzor Arukwe, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Antar Laniyan and Wunmi Toriola. The combination of established Nollywood performers and a story built around relationships and personal sacrifice gives the film several themes that audiences can discuss as its release approaches.
The Facebook partnership also points to a wider change in film promotion. Trailers and posters remain important, but audiences increasingly encounter movies through short videos, cast interviews, premiere photographs and conversations shared online. How social media is changing the way Nigerians discover Nollywood films is part of this shift, as online communities can introduce movies to new viewers and keep people engaged between the first announcement and the cinema release. However, online attention alone does not guarantee ticket sales; the film must still persuade audiences that its story is worth watching.
For Akindele, whose work spans acting, producing and directing, the partnership offers another opportunity to bring Nigerian storytelling to a broader audience. For Nollywood, it highlights the growing connection between cinema, digital creators and fan communities. With The Four: No One Fights Alone scheduled for December 11, audiences can expect more promotional content as the London and Lagos premieres draw closer. The response to that campaign will offer another glimpse into how Nigerian filmmakers are using digital platforms to build anticipation for their stories.
